TermDefinition
Habitat The place where an organism (living thing) lives
Adaptations Characteristics that help and organism to survive and reproduce
Eukaryotes Mostly multicellular, contain nucleus, contain membrane bound organelles. E.g. plant cells
Prokaryotes No nucleus, no membrane bound organelles, mostly unicellular. E.g. bacteria
Protists Group in which organisms end up in if they are not prokaryotes, fungi, plants or animals. Protists are extremely diverse. Eukaryotes, mostly unicellular, some asexual and some sexual, autotrophs and heterotrophs
Plantae (plants) Autotrophs. Have chlorophyll in chloroplasts. Have a cell wall. asexually/sexually
Fungi Most are eukaryotic. Single celled fungi are yeasts. Reproduce with spores. Cell walls made of chitin. Decompose dead materials. Heterotrophs. Excrete powerful enzymes. Lysotrophs - decomposers

Mutualism Positive for both organisms (+ +)
Commensalism Positive for only one organism and no effect on the other (+ 0)
Parasitism Positive for only one organism that lives and shelters on the other organism. The relationship is detrimental to the other organisms (+ -)
Predators Eat other organisms (prey)
Prey The organism that is eaten by the predator
Competitors Two organisms that eat the same food/use the same recourses and live in the same habitat
Food chain sun - grass - grass hopper - kookaburra - bacteria
Producers Producing their own food (aka autotrophs)

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
