| amenorrhea | the absence of a menstrual period in a woman of reproductive age. |
| androgen | a group of hormones that primarily influence the growth and development of the male reproductive system. The predominant and most active androgen is testosterone, which is produced by the male testes. |
| anovulation | when the ovaries do not release an oocyte during a menstrual cycle . |
| atretic | congenital absence or closure of a normal body orifice or tubular passage such as the anus, intestine, or external ear canal. |
| cryptorchidism | a condition in which one or both of the testes fail to descend from the abdomen into the scrotum. |
| dysmenorrhea | painful menstrual cramps at or around the time of your monthly period. |
| dyspareunia | painful intercourse |
| endometriosis | a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other places in the body outside of the womb. |
| erectile dysfunction (ED) | he inability to get and keep an erection firm enough for sex. |
| hirsutism | condition in women that results in excessive growth of dark or coarse hair in a male-like pattern — face, chest and back |
| infertility | not being able to become pregnant within certain parameters |
| menarche | the first menstrual cycle, or first menstrual bleeding, in female humans. |
| menopause | he time that marks the end of your menstrual cycles. It's diagnosed after you've gone 12 months without a menstrual period. |
| polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) | a condition that affects women in their child-bearing years and alters the levels of multiple hormones, resulting in problems affecting many body systems. |
| perimenopause | "around menopause" and refers to the time during which your body makes the natural transition to menopause, marking the end of the reproductive years |
| phytoestrogen | a plant-derived xenoestrogen (see estrogen) not generated within the endocrine system, but consumed by eating phytoestrogenic plants. |
| spermatogonia | an undifferentiated male germ cell |
