| adaptation | the process in which a living thing changes slightly over time to survive in a particular environment |
| carrying capacity | The largest population that an environment can support at any given time |
| coevolution | Long-term changes that take place in two species’ close interaction so that both organisms’ relationship is more beneficial |
| commensalism | A relationship between two organisms in which one organism benefits and the other is unaffected |
| limiting factor | Resources that are so scarce that it limits the size of a population |
| mutualism | A relationship between two species in which both species benefit |
| parasitism | A relationship between two species where the parasite benefits from the host, but the host is harmed |
| predator | An organism that eats all or part of another organism |
| prey | An organism that is killed and eaten by other organisms |
| symbiosis | A close, long-term association between two or more species |
