Genetics

TermDefinition
homozygous dominant A genotype that contains two of the same dominent alleles.
homozygous recessive A genotype that contains two of the same recessive alleles.
genotype A combination of any two alleles.
recessive An allele that is hidden by the stronger allele.
heterozygous This is a genotype that contains both a dominent and recessive allele.
gene A piece of genetic information that codes for a specific trait.
allele Different forms of a gene.
phenotype The physical appearance of an organism.
dominant This allele hides the weaker allele.
Where is DNA found? In the nucleus of every cell.
What are alleles represented by? A single letter
What is an example of a trait and an example of a phenotype? A trait would be eye color and a phenotype would be tall.
