| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Commensalism | A type of symbiotic relationship where one organism benefits and the other organism is unaffected (neither helped or harmed) |
| Parasitism | A type of symbiotic relationship where one organism benefits and the other is harmed. |
| Parasite | What we call the organism that benefits from a parasitic relationship. |

| Mutualism | A type of symbiotic relationship where BOTH organisms benefit. |
| Symbiosis OR Symbiotic | A word that is used to describe relationships that have evolved between two different species of organisms that live in close physical contact with each other AND at least one organism benefits from the relationship. |
| Competition | Describes when organisms have to go after (compete) for limited resources such as food, water, living space, or a mate. Competition occurs between organisms of the same species as well as between organisms of different species. |
| Resource | Something that an organism needs for its survival or the survival of the species (as in reproduction) |
| Predator | In a predation relationship, this word describes the organism that hunts and kills another organism for food. |

| Predation | Relationship between two organisms that are different species in which one hunts and kills the other for food. Important process to limit population size from becoming too large (think of the important role the wolves play in Yellowstone). |
| Adaptation | An inherited trait that helps an organism to survive in its environment. |
