General Plant Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Stems | Plant organs that hold leaves, flowers, and fruit on the plant. |
| Xylem tissues | Carry water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. |
| Phloem tissues | Carry sugar away from the leaves to the other parts of the plants. |
| Roots | Store food, anchor the plant in the soil, and absorb minerals and water from the soil. |
| Flower | Organs made of tissues of similar cells, responsible for some plants' reproduction. |
| Stamen | The male part of the plant. |
| Pistil | The female part of the plant. It is shaped like a bottle. |
| Pollen | A grainy, often yellow powder that is on top of the stamen. |
| Pollination | Moving pollen from the stamen to the pistil . |
| Leaves | Make food for the plant. |
| Photosynthesis. | The process by which certain cells within green leaves of plants change water, carbon dioxide, and light energy into sugar and oxygen. |
| Respiration | The process by which plant cells use stored food for energy. |
| Chlorophyll | A green substance within chloroplasts that absorbs light energy. |
| Chloroplasts | A green colored structure, found only in plant cells, that is essential to a plant's food production |
