| Function | The way an organism uses a specific structure |
| Inherited Traits | Characteristic passed from parents to their offspring |
| Learned Behavior | Behaviors that animals develop by observing others |
| Innate Behavior | Behaviors that organisms inherit and know without being taught |
| Mimicry | The way an organism looks like another to avoid predators or to catch prey |
| Camouflage | The ability of an organism to blend in to its surroundings to avoid predators or catch prey |
| Hibernation | A deep sleep-like state when an animal's body processes slow down |
| Migration | The seasonal movement of animals from one place to another |
| Nocturnal | Describes the way organisms are active at night |
| Instinct | Behaviors that organisms are born with and already know how to do |
