Earth's Layers

Part of EarthDescription
Asthenosphere the (semisolid) layer below the lithosphere that forms the upper mantle
Inner core the densest innermost layer of the Earth composed mostly of solid iron
Lithosphere the outermost layer of Earth which comprises the crust and the upper (solid) mantle
Mantle the thickest layer of Earth that is located outside of the outer core
Composition the way in which a whole or mixture is made up
Outer core the layer located around the inner core containing molten material
Plate distinct sections of the lithosphere which make up the outermost layer of the Earth
Convection Currents found in the Asthenosphere, causes tectonic plates to move
Continental crust thicker part of Earth’s crust that forms the large land masses
Oceanic crust thinner part of Earth’s crust that lies underneath the ocean basins
