air mass A huge body of air in the lower atmosphere that has similar temperature, humidity, and air pressure at any given height.
Tropical air mass a warm air mass that forms in the tropics.
Polar air mass An air mass that forms at the poles.
maritime air mass An air mass that forms over the ocean.
CoNtInEnTaL air mass An air mass that forms over a CoNtInEnT
jet stream Bands of high-stream winds about 10 kilometers from earth's surface.
front A boundary where air masses meet.
Occlusion When an air mass is cut off from the ground.
cyclone A swirling center of low air pressure.
Anticyclone A high pressure center of dry air.
storm A violent disturbance in the atmosphere.
thunderstorm A small storm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning.
Lightning An electrical discharge from cloud to cloud.
hurricane A tropical cyclone with wind speeds of 119km/h or higher.
storm surge Domes of water that sweep across the coast when a hurricane lands.
tornado A swirling, funnel shaped cloud that reaches down from a thunderstorm to reach Earth's surface

meteorologist Someone who studies and tries to predict the weather.
