Anatomy of the CNS/PNS COLA

TermDefinition
Effective communication system starts with: A stimulus that triggers a response
Sensory Receptors are specialized cells, usually neurons, that detect and respond to physical and chemical stimuli.
CNS consists of Brain and Spinal cord
PNS consists of Sensory nerves and Motor nerves
Sensory nerves also referred to as: Afferent (going INTO the CNS)
Motor nerves also referred to as: Efferent (coming OUT of the CNS)
Spinal Cord Extends from the medulla oblongata in the brainstem to the lumbar region of the vertebral column
Cerebrum Left and Right hemispheres of the brain
Diencephalon includes: Thalmus and Hypothalmus
Brainstem includes: Midbrain, Pons and Medulla Oblongata
Cerebellum the part of the brain at the back of the skull in vertebrates, which coordinates and regulates muscular activity.
Within the Forebrain Telencephalon: cerebral hemispheres Diencephalon
Within the Midbrain Mesencephalon Connects Forebrain & Hindbrain
Within the Hindbrain Brainstem (Pons & Medulla Oblongata) & the Cerebellum
