Communication
Anatomy of the CNS/PNS COLA
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Effective communication system starts with: | A stimulus that triggers a response |
Sensory Receptors | are specialized cells, usually neurons, that detect and respond to physical and chemical stimuli. |
CNS consists of | Brain and Spinal cord |
PNS consists of | Sensory nerves and Motor nerves |
Sensory nerves also referred to as: | Afferent (going INTO the CNS) |
Motor nerves also referred to as: | Efferent (coming OUT of the CNS) |
Spinal Cord | Extends from the medulla oblongata in the brainstem to the lumbar region of the vertebral column |
Cerebrum | Left and Right hemispheres of the brain |
Diencephalon | includes: Thalmus and Hypothalmus |
Brainstem | includes: Midbrain, Pons and Medulla Oblongata |
Cerebellum | the part of the brain at the back of the skull in vertebrates, which coordinates and regulates muscular activity. |
Within the Forebrain | Telencephalon: cerebral hemispheres Diencephalon |
Within the Midbrain | Mesencephalon Connects Forebrain & Hindbrain |
Within the Hindbrain | Brainstem (Pons & Medulla Oblongata) & the Cerebellum |
