Three Phases of PACU Care Phase I (intensive nursing care), Phase II (prepare pt for self care), Phase 3 (Prepare the pt for discharge)
What is Phase I of PACU Care? Intensive nursing-pt is still under affects of anesthesia
What is Phase II of PACU Care? Prepare pt for self care-pt can do some things themselves
What is Phase III of PACU Care? Prepare pt for discharge- Pt is ready to go home
Responsibility of the PACU nurse Airway, CV stability, Pain and Anxiety management, nausea and vomiting
Vitals are taken every ... 15 mins
Hypopharyngeal Obstruction Tongue falls back and occludes the airway
Pulse Ox reads the O2 when? from 5 mins ago
Shock not enough bp to perfuse the organs
Hypovolemic Shock Symptoms Narrowing pulse pressure, low bp, concentrated urine, threading pulse
Hypovolemic Shock Occurs when O2 is not getting to organs
Hypovolemic Shock Interventions Push IV fluids, check O2, lay pt flat and elevate legs
For nausea and vomiting turn the pt to the side to avoid aspiration
What is a sign of hypertension full bladder
Prevent foot drop by early ambulation, ROM exercises
First-intention Wound Healing Wounds that have minimal skin damage and edges can be brought together to be sutured, stapled, etc and there is a thin scar after (appy)
Second-intention Wound Healing Wounds that are too jagged or damaged to nicely close, results in thicker scar due to healing from inside out (trauma) (most likely have a drain)
Third-intention Wound Healing most likely need to be packed with a drain, wounds that were not initially sutured or were resutured
First dressing changes are done by?? the surgeon
