Greenhouse Gas The trapping of heat near a planet's surface by certain gases in the planet's atmosphere.
Coriolis Effect The effect of Earth's rotation on the direction of winds and currents.
Water Vapor Water in the form of a gas..
Troposphere The lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere
Wind The horizontal movement of air from an area of high pressure to an area of lower pressure.
Radiation The transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves.
Land Breeze The flow of air from land to a body of water.
Density The measurement of how much mass of a substance is contained in a given volume.
Latitude The distance in degrees north or south of the equator.
Atmosphere The relatively thin layer of gases that form earth's outermost layer.
EM Waves A wave made up of a combination of a changing electric field and a changing magnetic field; A wave that can transfer electric and magnetic energy through the vacuum of space.
Mesosphere The layer of Earth's atmosphere directly above the stratosphere.
Sea Breeze The flow of cooler air from over an ocean or lake toward land.
Aneroid Barometer An instrument that measures changes in air pressure without using a liquid.
Local winds Winds that blow over short distances.
Mercury Barometer An instrument that measures changes in air pressure, consisting of a glass tube partially filled with mercury, with its open end resting in a dish of mercury.
Weather The condition of earth's atmosphere at a particular time and place.
Infrared Radiation Electromagnetic Waves with wavelengths that are longer than visible light but shorter than microwaves.
Altitude Elevation above sea level.
Scattering Reflection of light in all directions.
Thermosphere The outermost layer of earth's atmosphere.
Air Pressure The pressure caused by the weight of a column of air pushing down on an area.
Barometer An instrument used to measure changes in air pressure.
Stratosphere The second-lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere.
UV Radiation Electromagnetic Waves with wavelengths that are shorter than visible light, but longer than X-rays.
Exosphere The outer layer of the Thermosphere.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
