Musical theatre
| Term | Definition |

| Book musical | a type of music that uses singing, dancing, and acting to tell a complex story |
| Chorus | a group of performers that act, dance, and sing in a musical, usually in background/supporting roles |
| Chorus song | a song in a musical where almost all of the cast is singing |
| Cinematography | the art of making movies |
| Curtain call | the cast and chorus return to the stage to take a bow and thank the musicians and the stage crew |
| Duet | a performance by two people |
| Finale | the final song in a musical |
| Musical | a dramatic performance written for stage or film that uses popular music styles to help tell the story; a play with singing |
| Opening song | a song at the beginning of a musical that introduces the story |
| Overture | an orchestral song that plays at the beginning of many musicals which previews the music to come |
| Reprise | a repetition of a song or theme that was already sang in the show, but this time it may be shorter or have slightly different lyrics |
| Revue | a style of musical that is a series of loosely related musical performances but doesn’t tell a fully developed story |
| Solo | a performance by one person “The Book”: term for the story and script of the musical Trio: a performance by 3 people |
