Simple Machines
| Term | Definition |

| force | a push or pull that can change the position of an object |
| wedge | a simple machine, such as a nail or an ax, that changes the angle and direction of force |
| simple machines | a basic tool that makes work easier to do and has few or no moving parts |
| work | the use of force to move something over a distance |
| inclined plane | a flat surface that is tilted at an angle |
| fulcrum | the point of support on which a lever pivots |
| pulley | a simple machine made of a wheel with a grooved rim over which a rope or cable is looped |
| screw | a simple machine that changes a circular force to an up-or-down force |
| lever | a simple machine with a bar that allows heavy objects to be lifted or moved |
| wheel and axle | a simple machine made from a wheel rotating around a fixed point |
