Fundamentals of Engineering Textbook Chapter 2: Engineering as a Profession

ABET requires students to graduate with a number of abilities pertaining to STEM, conduct experiments, identify and solve engineering problems, design systems and components, work well with teams, and understand impacts of proposed engineered solutions.
Codes of ethics set of guidelines that should be followed when engineers interact with the public, their employees, their clients, and other engineers.
Construction Engineer complete the same tasks for structures such as roads, bridges, and skyscrapers.
Design Engineer use an engineering design process to create a product that meets the needs of a client.
Development Engineer are involved in the testing and analysis of ideas and products.
Economic Impact effects products have on financial systems.
Environmental Impact effects engineered products have on human health and the world around us.
Ethics guidelines that we use to help us make decisions about our behavior.
Green Design focuses on creating products that are not harmful to the environment throughout their life cycle; also called sustainable design.
Management Engineer coordinate all of the engineering processes including materials and human resources.
Negative Impact effects that cause damage to people or the environment.
Operations Engineer control and maintain large systems, such as manufacturing facilities, railroad systems, and traffic systems.
Patent exclusive right that is granted by a government to the creator of a new product or design so others cannot produce it without permission.
Positive Impact successful solutions to engineering design problems.
Production Engineer plan, coordinate, and schedule the manufacturing of consumer goods.
P.E. a title that allows individuals to approve, sign, and stamp plans and documents.
Research Engineer work with scientists to find uses for scientific discoveries
Risk Analysis process that identifies and evaluates as many of the potential impacts of an engineered solution as possible.
Sales Engineer work with clients to find products that meet their needs.
Societal Impact effects that engineered products have on the lives of groups of people.
