| mineral | natural, nonliving solid crystals that make up rock |
| cleavage | property of minerals to break along smooth, flat surfaces |
| luster | the way the surface of a mineral reflects light |
| hardness | how easily the surface of a mineral can be scratched |
| igneous | rocks that form from molten rock |
| sedimentary | rocks that form from when layers of sediments settle on top of one another and harden |
| metamorphic | rocks that have changed due to heat and pressure |
| weathering | process of rocks in earth's crust slowly being broken down into smaller pieces |
| groundwater | any water that is underground |
| erosion | process of carrying away weathered bits of rock |
| precipitation | any form of water that falls to Earth |
| landform | a natural land feature on Earth's surface |
| fault | a break of crack in rocks where Earth's crust can move suddenly |
| water cycle | the movement of water from Earth's surface to the atmosphere and back again |
