| Bauxite | Aluminum Ore |
| Calcite | Mineral that shows double refraction (also the main mineral in the rocks limestone and dolostone) |
| Diamond | Hardest mineral on the Mohs scale |
| Galena | Lead ore, that was once mined extensively in southwestern Virginia |
| Gemstone | A rare and beautiful mineral that that is cut and polished to use in jewelry |
| Gypsum | Soft mineral (hardness of 2), commonly used in drywall |
| Halite | Geologic name for Salt, and was mined extensively in Saltville, Virginia |
| Mica | Flaky mineral that is easily identified by its cleavage. Splits into thin sheets, and is a common Virginia mineral |
| Ore | A mineral that when mined produces a profit |
| Pyrite | Also called "Fools Gold", due to it closely resembling gold |
| Quartz | The main component of the sand at Virginia Beach. Is what glass is mostly made of, and is a common Virginia mineral |
| Sulfur | Mineral that is easily identified by smell (rotten eggs), and its yellow color |
| Talc | Softest mineral on the Mohs scale |
