In the beginning was the word In principio erat Verbum
And the word was with God and the word was God Et verbum erat apud Deum and Verbum erat Deus
the same was in the beginning with God Hoc in principio apud Deum.
All things were made by him Omnia facta sunt per ipsum
And without him was made nothing that was made Et sine ipso factum est nihil quod factum est.
In him was life and the life was the light of men In ipso erat vita et vita erat lux hominum
And the light shineth in darkness Et lux lucet in tenebris
And the darkness did not comprehend it. Et Tenebrae non comprehenderunt eam.
There was a man sent by God whose name was John. Fuit homo missus a Deo cui nomen erat Joannes
This man came for a witness Hic venit in testimonium
That he might bear witness of the light Ut perhiberet testimonium de lumine
that all men might believe through him ut omnes crederent per illum
He was not the light but that he might bear witness of the light. Ille non erat lux sed ut perhiberet testimonium de lumine
that was the true light which enlighteneth every man coming into this world Erat vera lux quae illuminat omnem hominem venientem in hunc mundum.
He was in the world and the world was made by Him Erat in mundo, et mundus factus est per ipsum,
and the world knew him not et mundus non cognovit eum
He came into his own and his own received him not Venit in propria et sui non receperunt eum
But as many as received Him, Quotquot autem receperunt eum
To them he gave the power to become sons of God Eis dedit potestatem fieri fillios Dei.
To them who believe in his name His qui credunt in ejus nomine
Who have been born not of blood Qui nati sunt non ex sanguinibus
Nor of the will of the flesh Neque ex voluntate carnis
Nor of the will of man, but of God Neque ex voluntate viri, sed ex Deo.
And the word became flesh and dwelt amongst us Et Verbum factum est caro et habitavit in nobis
And we saw his glory Et vidimus ejus gloriam
The glory as the only begotten of the father Gloriam quasi unigeniti a patre
Full of grace and truth Plenum gratiae et veritatis
