What are examples of renewable resources? trees, water, wind, and sunlight
What is the difference between selective cutting and clear-cutting? Selective cutting leaves trees of various sizes and species, but clear-cutting takes all the trees.
What is the practice of raising fish and other water-dwelling organisms for food? aqua culture
What happens to the population if fish are caught faster than they can breed? The population will decrease.
What is it called when only some trees in a forest are cut down and a mix of tree sizes and species are left standing? Selective cutting
What is a fishery? An area with a large population of valuable ocean organisms.
What does it mean for a species to be extinct? All members of a species disappears from Earth.
What can laws prohibiting products made form species do? Help protect endangered species.
What is habitat destruction? The loss of a natural habitat.
What does biodiversity mean? The number of different species in an area.
What factors affect an area's biodiversity? genetic diversity, climate, niche diversity, area, and extinction of species
What is a keystone species? A species that influences the survival of many other species in an ecosystem.
What are costs and benefits on an environmental issue? The positives and negatives
What are some costs for offshore drilling? setting up sites; transporting oil; oil spills
What are some benefits for offshore drilling? create jobs; builds oil supplies; decreases dependence on foreign oil
