Optics- chapter 13
Lenses
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Secondary Focus | Focus on the same side as the incident rays |
Principal Center | The point on the principal axis where the light rays parallel to the principal axis converge after refraction |
Optical Center | Point at the exact center of the lens |
Rule one; Diverging lens | A ray parallel to the principal axis is refracted as if it had come through the principal focus |
Rule two: Diverging lens | A ray that appears to pass through the secondary principal focus is refracted parallel to the principal focus |
Rule three: Diverging lens | A ray through the optical center continues through |
Rule one: Converging lens | A ray parallel to the principal axis is refracted through the principle focus |
Rule two: Converging lens | A ray through the secondary principal focus is refracted parallel to the principal axis |
Rule three: Converging lens | A ray through the optical center (o) continues through |
