Mountain Landform that is much higher than the surrounding land
Ranges Mountains that occur in groups
Hills Landforms that are like mountains but not as high Most have rounded slopes
Plain Large, flat landform with little relief
Moraines Long, low hills formed by materials carried by a glacier Contains rocks, sand, and clay
Glacial Grooves Feature formed when a glacier scrapes and scratches the rock beneath it
Sand pits & Barrier islands Long narrow piles of sand that help protect the mainland from wave erosion
Sandbar Sand landform made by rivers
Mesa Tall, flat topped rock feature that forms as water erodes the surrounding rock
Canyons Deep valleys with steep sides formed by rushing water that carved through many layers of rock
Mouth Part of a river where it empties into the ocean
Landside Erosion made by soil, mud, and rocks moving quickly down a slope
Cover Crops Help to return nutrients to the soil and help prevent erosion
Crust Surface layer of the Earth
Mantle 2 Parts (Upper & Lower) Made up of solid rock but can flow
Outer Core Hot liquid iron
Inner Core Made up of Iron & Nickel Very hot but the great pressure at the center of the Earth keeps it solid
Focus Place within the crust where energy is released during an earthquake
Magnitude Amount of energy released an earthquake releases
Richter Scale A scale of magnitude for an earthquake
Molten Melted
Vent Opening
Hot Spot An Especially hot column of magma
