| coronal plane | splitting body front and back |
| sagital plane | splitting body into two halves |
| transverse plane | splitting body into top and bottom |
| midline | line down through the eyes and umbilicus forming left and ride halves |
| medial | a position closer to the midline |
| lateral | a position farther away from midline |
| bilateral | both sides of anything ie. the patient has bradypnea bilaterally |
| axilla | armpit |
| mid-axillary line | extends vertically from mid-armpit to ankle (divides body front and back halves) |
| anterior | front |
| posterior | back |
| ventral | front |
| dorsal | back of body, hand, and foot |
| superior | above |
| inferior | below |
| proximal | closer to the torso |
| distal | farther away from the torso |
| palmar | palm of hand |
| plantar | sole of foot |
| mid-clavicular line | line middle of each clavicle extending inferiorly |
