Shadow Dark area caused when an object blocks light from falling on a surface
Movement Earth’s rotation during the day gives the FALSE appearance of the Sun’s ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ from east to west across the sky.
Cardinal Directions Includes the 4 compass points of north, south, east, and west.
Day Period during rotation when Earth is facing the Sun and it is lighted.
Rotation Period of 24 hours or the time it takes Earth to make one complete spin on its axis.
Stars Earth’s rotation during the night gives the FALSE appearance that the ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ move across the sky.
Sundial Instrument showing the time by using the shadow of a pointer cast by the Sun onto a surface marked with times.
Axis An imaginary line around which the Earth spins.
Compass Tool that uses a tiny magnet to show which direction is north.
Night Period during Earth’s rotation when Earth faces away from the Sun and it is dark.
Precipitation Snow, rain, sleet, or hail that falls to Earth’s surface from clouds in the sky.
Water Cycle Cycle in which water evaporates into the air, condenses into clouds, then precipitates down to Earth’s surface and collects in bodies of water.
Evaporation Physical change from a liquid to a gas.
Condensation Physical change from a gas to a liquid.
Ocean One of 5 large bodies of salt water covering about 75% of the earth
