Fossils and shit.

it's about fossils.........yea.

QuestionAnswer
Evolution is? A gradual process if change over time.
What are the 2 types of evolution? Explain what they are. Organic- gradual change over time Geographical- Gradual change in earths appearance
The strongest evidence we have to an organic evolution. Fossils
Scientist compare ancient organisms with modern day organisms and can tell whether organic evolution has occured. Fossils
Preservative Material Fossils
Organisms likely to be preserved in amber, tar, and ice. AMBER- insects TAR- saber-tooth tiger, woolly ICE- Mammoth a range of different specimens
Where are most fossils found? Sedimentary rock
Where are sedimentary rock formed? In a layered structure. The oldest layer are usually at the bottom.
Index fossils are? Fossils of organisms that lived a short time and became extinct quickly. Scientist use these fossils to help them date other ones.
Radioactive dating Use of isotopes to determine the absolute age of rock layers.
Geological time scale Is divided into intervals of time; eras. It's a summary of various types of
what are the 4 eras? Precambrian, paleozoic, mesozoic, cenozoic
Earliest known organisms are? Fungi, Bacteria, and stromatilites
Variations are? Trait differences between same species
Gradualism? Darwins theory, a species changes over time.
Punctuated equalibrium? An evolutionary theory; species evolves suddenly and rapidly
Favorable trait Charactistics og an organism that help them survive
Natural selection Process of environment choosing traits of an organism
Geographic isolation Seperation of species by land
Reproductive Isolation Genes become so different they can no longer interbreed....... example; a human and a horse. We cannot make human ponies.
Darwins theory Inculdes natural selection failed to explain variation
LaMarck's theory The more an organism uses a body part the stornger it will get and the new body part will be passed down to the youngster.... FAMILY BODY LOOM!!!!
Speciation Traits vary so much in a sepecies it causes a new one.
Modern theory Happenens to the population not indivuals
Adaptive radiation Process bu which a species evolves into a number of different species.
Diversity Organisms of same species vary in traits
Gene pool Total number of inheritable traits
Gene frequency How often a gene appears wthin a species
