Moon Vocab for 6th

TermDefinition
What are craters? round structures with various sizes and detaits
What are Rays? White lines that extend in all directions from the craters
What are Maria? Large dark gray areas that are smooth
What are Comets? Large icy objects with a tail that orbit the sun
What are Asteroids? Chunks of rocky material that orbit the sun
What is the lunar cycle? the four week period during which the Moon orbits Earth one time and goes through all of its phases.
What does illuminate mean? To light up
What is a lunar eclipse? an eclipse in which the moon appears darkened as it passes into the earth's shadow.
What is a solar eclipse? an eclipse in which the sun is blocked out by the moon.
When do you get a meteorite? when a meteoroid hits an object like the Moon.
What is weight? a measure of the gravitational pull on an object.
