cataracts an opacity of the lens that distorts the image projected onto the retina and that can progress to blindness

interventions of cataracts surgical removal of lens, one eye at a time is performed
extracapsular extraction lens is lifted out without removing the lens capsule
intracapsular extraction lens and the capsule are removed completely
interventions for acute glaucoma treat as a med emergency, give meds to lower IOP, prepare client for peripheral iridectomy, allowing aqueous humor to flow from posterior chamber to anterior chamber
interventions for chronic glaucoma tell client importance of meds,medic alert bracelet, report eye pain, halos around eyes, changes in vision,
interventions for retinal detachment bed rest, cover both eyes w/patches, speak to client before approaching, avoid jerky head movements
interventions for macular degeneration try to assist in maximizing remaining vision and independence, laser or photodynamic therapy to seal leaking blood vessels
