Cultural Carrying Capacity The limit on population growth that would allow most people in an area or the world to live in reasonable comfort and freedom without impairing the ability of the planet to sustain future generations The limit to population growth that would allow people to live comfortably without harming the Earth's abilities to provide for future generations
Crude Birth Rate Births per thousand people in a population in a given year Births per thousand people
Crude Death Rate Deaths per thousand people in a population in a given year Deaths per thousand people
Fertility Rate The number of children born to a woman during her lifetime Number of children a woman has in her lifetime
Replacement-Level Fertility Rate The average number of children that couples in a population must bear in order to replace themselves Average number of children a couple has to have in order to replace them (in population)
