| rods | responsible for peripheral vision and function at reduced levels of illumination |
| cones | function at bright levels of light, responsible for color and central vision |
| optic disc | creamy pink to white depressed area in retina, where optic nerve enters and exits, called the blind spot, insensitive to light, no photoreceptive cells |
| aqueous humor | clear watery fluid that fills anterior and posterior chamber of eye, fluid drains into canal of Schlemm, anterior chamber between cornea and iris, posterior chamber between iris and lens |
