Term | Definition |
---|---|
Interphase | First stage of the cell cycle. |
Replication | Cell makes exact copy of DNA. |
Heredity | The passing of physical characteristics. |
Trait | Each specific characteristics. |
Genetics | The scientific study of heredity. |
Fertilization | Egg and sperm join together. |
Purebred | Organisms in the offspring of many generations that have the same form of a trait. |
Gene | The factors that control a trait. |
Allele | Different forms of gene. |
Dominant Allele | The trait that always shows up in the organism when the allele is present. |
Recessive Allele | Hidden allele when dominant is present. |
Hybrid | Organisms with two different alleles. |
Probability | The chance or likely of something happening. |
Punnet Square | Chart the shows the ways all alleles combine. |
Phenotype | Two terms that genetics use. |
Genotype | Two terms that genetics use. |
Homozygous | Two identical alleles. |
Heterozygous | Two different alleles. |
Incomplete Dominant | One allele is only partly there. |
Condominance | Both alleles in a gene are expressed equally. |
Multiple Alleles | Three or more possible alleles that determine traits. |
Polygenic Inheritance | More than one gene effects the trait. |
Meiosis | The number of chromosomes are reduced by half as sex cells form. |
Steps of Meiosis 1 | Interphase , Prophase , Metaphase , Anaphase , Telophase , Cell divides , forms two daughter cells. |
Steps of Meiosis 2 | Two daughter cells divide forming two more cells. |
