Atomic theory pt.2
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Valence Electrons | The electrons farthest from the nucleus ; They are responsible for atoms forming compounds. |
| Molecule | 2 or more atoms chemically combined. |
| Compound | 2 different atoms chemically combined. |
| Mixture | A combination of 2 or more different atoms or molecules that are not chemically combined. |
| Covalent bond | Chemical bond between 2 non metals |
| Ionic bond | Chemical bond between a metal and non metal |
| Octet rule | Elements are stable when their valence shell is full. This can done with 8 or in some cases 2. |
| Alkali Metals | They react quickly with water, And they lose luster quickly. They have 1 valence electron. |
| Alkali Earth Metals | They react with water. They have 2 valence electrons. |
| Transition Metals | They don't react that much. They conduct heat and electricity. They have 2 eletrons |
| Halogens | They are toxic and they react quickly. |
