Atomic theory part 2
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Valence electrons | the electrons farthest from the nucleus; They are responsible for atoms forming compounds |
| Molecule | 2 or more atoms chemically combined |
| Compound | 2 different atoms chemically combined |
| Mixture | a combination of 2 or more different atoms or molecules that are not chemically combined |
| Covalent bond | chemical bond between 2 non-metals |
| ionic bond | Chemical bond between a metal and a non-metal |
| Octet rule | elements are stable when their valance electron shell is full. This can be done with 8 or in some cases 2. |
| Alkali metals | They react with water, and luster quickly . They have one valence electron |
| Alkali Earth metals | They react with water. They have 2 valence electrons |
| Transition | They don't react much . They are in group 3-12 |
