Phases of the Moon

6.E.1.1 Moon Phases

8 moon phases new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter moon, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter moon (3rd), waning crescent
27.3 days The Moon completes one orbit around Earth every 27.3 days
29.5 days how long it takes for the moon to complete its phases
axis the imaginary line that the Earth rotates on
1st quarter moon when the moon is only half way lit and the light is on the right
full moon when the moon is completely lit
last quarter (3rd quarter moon) when the moon is half way lit and the light is on the left
new moon no part of the moon is lit...all of it is dark
orbit the curved path of a celestial object or spacecraft around another object
rotate to spin around
(natural) satellite any celestial body in space that orbits around a larger body ex. the moon
waxing the moon is gaining light and it is on the right
waning the moon is losing light and it is on the left
crescent moon only a sliver of the moon is lit
gibbous moon 3/4 of the moon is lit
