Grade 7 Science
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Thermal Energy | The energy generated by movement or vibration of particles; the total kinetic energy of all particles in a substance. |
| Particle Model | All matter is made up of extremely tiny particles, and each pure substance has its own kind of particle, different from the particles of other pure substances. |
| Conduction | Process of transferring thermal energy through direct collisions between particles. |
| Convection | A process by wifi has a warm fluid moves from place to place carrying thermal energy. |
| Radiation | The transfer of energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. |
| Temperature | A measurement of how hot or cold something is, measured on a scale; the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance. |
| Celsius Scale | The most common scale for measuring temperature. Water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees. |
| Kelvin Scale | A scale used to measure temperature. It can measure the coolest possible temperature known as Absolute Zero |
| Absolute Zero | The coldest temperature known. |
| Fusion | Melting (solid to liquid) |
| Solidification | Freezing (liquid to solid) |
| Sublimation | Gas to solid or solid to gas |
| Geothermal Energy | Energy generated from interior of Earth |
| Congeneration | Method of energy conservation by which waste heat or energy from one industry is used by another industry |
