| density | a measurement of the amount of matter an object has |
| igneous | igneous rocks are formed when magma cools and makes crystals. |
| metamorphic | metamorphic rocks are formed when rocky material experiences intense heat and pressure under the crust of the earth. |
| sedimentary | sedimentary rocks are little rocks that form together when lots of other rocks break into fragments and collect together over thousands of years: limestone sandstone |
| erosion | wearing away exposed surfaces by agents such as wind, moving water and ice. these agents usually contain weathered rock debris. |
| weathering | the process which rocks are broken down by chemical and/or physical change into smaller particles. |
| deposition | the placement of new soil or sediment on new ground |
| super position | super position is when younger sedimentary rock layers are found atop older sedimentary layers |
| fossilization | the process in which an animal or plant is covered in sediment and becomes preserved in a hard form. |
| lithosphere | the part of the earth that is made up of the crust and upper mantle. |
