| Abiotic | Non-living parts of ecosystems. |
| Biotic | Living parts of ecosystems. |
| Consumer | Cannot create own energy. Relies on other organisms for energy. |
| Producer | Can produce their own energy via photosynthesis. |
| Decomposer | Break down dead organisms, faeces & waste and returns the matter to the environment. |
| Food Web | A way to represent the transfer of energy as organisms feed off each other. Made of many food chains. |
| Biomass Pyramid | A way to represent the total amount of mass at each consumer level. |
| Biomagnification | Increasing amounts of pollutants being digested as you move up a food chain. |
| Deforestation | The clearing of land by removing large numbers of trees. |
| Conservation | Saving or protecting environments for the future, e.g national parks. |
| Sustainability | Balancing our need for resources with the need to protect and conserve the environment. |
