| conduction | The transfer of heat that occurs when one thing touches another. |
| convection | The transfer of thermal energy as matter (air or liquid) moves and makes a current. |
| radiation | Energy that is sent out in waves from a heat source. |
| refraction | The bending of light when it passes into a medium (solid, liquid, or gas). |
| reflection | Occurs when light rays bounce off a surface. |
| absorption | Occurs when an object takes in light waves. |
