Living Organism Life form such as a plant or animal.
Past Time before now.
Fossils Naturally preserved parts or traces of living organisms from the past.
Model A ‐‐‐‐‐ can be a diagram, drawing, or structure, usually built to scale, that helps us understand and visualize ideas in science.
Evidence Proof, data, facts.
Identify To recognize.
A forest environment If many plant fossils are found, scientists can conclude that at one time the area was ‐‐‐‐‐.
Environment Surroundings in which an organism lives.
Present Modern day, now.
An ocean environment If many shell and fish fossils are found, scientists can conclude that at one time the area was ‐‐‐‐‐.
Glaciers _________ create U-shaped valleys.
Rivers __________ create V-shaped valleys.
Delta Formed when sediments are deposited where a river meets a lake or ocean.
Canyon Formed from fast moving water, creating a deep gorge with steep sides (cliffs).
Erosion Process that moves sediments from one place to another. (takes it)
Deposition When sediments are deposited. (dropped off)
Cementation Minerals stick sediments together like glue or cement.
Weathering The breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces called sediments. (breaks it)
Compaction When sediments are buried deep under layers, the pressure smashes them together in a process called ‐‐‐‐‐.
