Biology 4

what i need to know for my exam

QuestionAnswer
name the sections of a leaf? the top is the cuticle. then theres a lower and upper epidermis, then a spongy mesophyll and plaisade cell, at the bottom a stomata and a guard cell. veins.
how are leaves adapted to do photosynthesis? they have a large surface area. thin and short for gas to travel over. they contain cholorphyll to absorb light/energy. has a network and vein for support and tranport. the stomta is for gas exchange
what is diffusion? it is the movement of water from an area of a high water concentation to an area of a low concentration. across a partially-permeable membrane and is a consequence of the random movement of individual particles.
Explain how plants are supported by the turgor pressure within cells:water pressure acting against inelastic cell wall. when thier is enough water in the cell it will swell making it more turged and supported
Explain the terms: flaccid, plasmolysed. when thier isnt enough water the cell/plant will begin to shrink, this is becasue their isnt enough pressure, this makes it flaccid and the cell is plasmolsyed.
decribe a phloem and the xylem a phloem is manily for food such as sugars, it allows them to travel in to ways (directions), the xylem only allows things to travel up.
nitrates, phosphates and potassuim, what happens when their isnt enough and what are they used for. nitrates: for maiking amino acids and proteins, cell growth. if there are none it stunts growth.
nitrates, phosphates and potassuim, what happens when their isnt enough and what are they used for. phospahtes: for DNA and cell membranes, respiration and growth, none casues purple leaves. potassium: help emzyms, none casues poor flower/fruit growth , discoloured leaves
Explain how the cellular structure of a leaf is adapted for efficient photosynthesis: epidermis is transparent;palisade layer at the top containing most of the chloroplasts;air spaces in the spongy mesophyll allow diffusion between stomata and photosynthesising cells; internal surface area / volume ratio very large.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
