Landforms
5.7B-Deltas, Canyons, and Sand Dunes
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Slow changes to Earth's surface | Water, wind, and ice continuously tear down and build up causing ‐‐‐‐‐. |
| Canyon | Formed from fast moving water, creating a deep gorge with steep sides (cliffs). |
| 3 Agents (causes) of Erosion | Water, wind, and ice (glaciers). |
| Glacier | Slowly moving body of ice. |
| Mouth of a river | Where swift (fast) moving water meets an ocean or lake. |
| Valley | Formed when a glacier or moving water erodes land between mountains. |
| Sand Dunes | Formed when wind blows sand around. |

| Erosion | Process that carries sediments away. |
| Delta | Formed when sediments are deposited where a river meets a lake or ocean. |
| Deposition | When sediments are deposited (dropped off). |
| Cementation | Minerals stick sediments together like glue or cement. |
| Weathering | The breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces called sediments. |
| Compaction | When sediments are buried deep under layers, the pressure smashes them together in a process called ‐‐‐‐‐. |
| Sediments | Small pieces of organic (living) and inorganic (non‐ living) material that have been broken down by weathering of rock. |
