What type of energy is food? Chemical Energy
What type of energy is sunlight? Radiant Energy
What type of organisms do photosynthesis – plants or animals? Only plants, not animals
What process turns radiant energy into chemical energy? Photosynthesis
T or F: Cell membranes are found in the cells of both plants and animals True
T or F: Chloroplasts are found in only plant cells. True
T or F: Cell walls are found in the cells of both plants and animals False
Which types of energy are produced during cellular respiration? Mechanical and Thermal Energies
Glucose is an example of this type of molecule, which is produced during photosynthesis. Food or Sugar
Give two examples of an inherited trait. Any 2 examples are acceptable – examples include: eye color, hair color, skin color, height, personality, etc. Incorrect guesses: tattoos, hair length, favorite color, etc.
List the 3 postulates of cell theory. All living things are made of cells, all cells come from pre-existing cells, cells are the basic unit of life (phrasing can be different as long as meaning is the same)
Define heredity. The passing of genetic information from parent to offspring (different words with same meaning are acceptable)
Give at least two other names for genetic material. DNA, genes, chromosomes, genetic information, etc.
What material determines our traits? DNA, genes, chromosomes or genetic material are all acceptable answers.
Which organelle holds our DNA? Nucleus
T or F: if you have a genetic disorder, you must have inherited it from your parents. True
T or F: Inherited traits can be acquired during your lifetime. False
Explain what an independent variable is. The variable the scientist changes or manipulates. Can also say it’s the variable the scientist is studying.
What is the function of a cell membrane? To control what goes in or out of the cell
What is the function of a cell wall? To provide support to the cell
Which variable is the x one that the scientist changes? Independent variable
