A student wants to make a model of the Earth and Sun. She keeps the globe in position and moves the flashlight in a circle around the globe. What is wrong with her model? The globe should move around the flashlight. In space, Earth moves around the Sun.
Why do we have day and night on Earth? Half of Earth is always in light and half is always in shadow. Earth spins on an axis and one rotation takes 24 hours. The side of Earth that is facing the Sun is having day.
Why are shadows long in the morning? because the sun is low in the sky
Why are shadows shortest at noon? because the sun is directly overhead
Why does the Sun appear to move across the sky? Because of Earth's rotation
How long does it take Earth to make one rotation on its axis? 24 hours
