# Scientific Method

### Use this to prepare for Scientific Method Test

What form do we write Scientific Questions? Does the (IV) effect the (DV)?
If the mass of a seed increases, then the height of the plant produced will increase. What is the IV? Mass of the seed
If the mass of a seed increases, then the height of the plant produced will increase. What is the DV? Height of the plant
If the mass of a seed increases, then the height of the plant produced will increase. What is the scientific question? Does the mass of the seed effect the height of the plant?
What form do we write a Hypothesis? If...then...
What must an investigator do before he/she can form a hypothesis? Define the problem
What error is made...If the height and mass of the building increases, then the length of the shadow will increase. there are too many Independent Variables (height and mass)
This is the step where you explain whether data supports the hypothesis and give future applications? Draw Conclusion
This is the step where you ask a question? Statement of the Problem
This is the step where you write a sentence in "If/Then" format? Form a Hypothesis
This is the step where you complete steps for the experiment and organize data in appropriate manner? Conduct Experiment and Record Data
This is the step where you search for background information needed to make an educated guess? Collect Information
This is the step where you identify the procedure, variables, constants, control and materials needed? Design an Experiment
What's an Independent Variable (IV)? what I change
What's a Dependent Variable (DV)? what I measure (data)
What's a Control Group? the normal group that I compare to (no special treatment)
What are Constants? keep the same
What are Sources of Error (SOE's)? anything that could affect the results
If the amount of water Mrs. Gore drinks increases, then the distance she is able to run will increase. What's the IV? IV = amount of water Mrs. Gore drinks
If the amount of water Mrs. Gore drinks increases, then the distance she is able to run will increase. What's the DV? DV = the distance she is able to run
