Microevolution

Main terms of the Microevolution study

TermDefinition
Microevolution Small scale changes in the frequency of genes within a few generations
Genes The code for specific traits that appear in organisms
Gene pool Collections of genes in a population
Genetic Bottleneck An event that drastically decreases population and gene diversity
"Living Dead" A term coined by scientists to identify species that have suffered a bottleneck event that could be wiped out in a second bottleneck event.
Mutation Random 'mistakes' in a population(???)
Minimum viable population size The smallest population size that a species can have and still sustain itself
