Biotic Factors The living parts of an ecosystem
Abiotic Factors Nonliving things in ecosystems
Organisms A single form of life; the simplest form of organization in ecology organization in ecology.
Populations All members of one kind of organism that live in a particular area
Communites A group of different populations of organisms
Niche The unique role an organism plays in the ecosysem
Food Chain The flow of energy from one organism to the next.
Food Web Shows the interactions among many different food chains in a single ecosystem.
Producer Organism that can create its own food through the process of photosynthesis
Consumer Organism that feeds on other organisms or organic matter because it cannot make its own food
decomposer Organisms that break down dead plants and animals into nutrients for the soil
Scavenger The animal that feeds off dead or decaying matter
