Ecosystems
| Term | Definition |

| Ecosystem | all the living and non-living in an area |
| Biotic factors | They are living parts of an ecosystem |
| abiotic factors | They are non-living things in an ecosystem |
| organism | A single form of life; the simplest form of organization in ecology. |
| population | All members of one kind of organism that live in a particular area. |
| communities | A group of different populations of organisms |
| ecosystem | A collection of different communities and the abiotic factors. |
| Biome | groups of organisms |
| niche | the specific role an organism plays in the ecosystem |
| Food Chain | The flow of energy from one organism to the next. |
| Food Web | Shows the interactions among many different food chains in a single ecosystem. |
| Producer | Organism that can create its own food through the process of photosynthesis |
| Consumer | Organism that feeds on other organisms or organic matter because it cannot make its own food |
| Decomposer | Organisms that break down dead plants and animals into nutrients for the soil |
| Scavenger | An animal the feeds off dead or decaying matter |
