Ecosystem all the living and non-living in an area
Biotic factors They are living parts of an ecosystem
abiotic factors They are non-living things in an ecosystem
organism A single form of life; the simplest form of organization in ecology.
population All members of one kind of organism that live in a particular area.
communities A group of different populations of organisms
ecosystem A collection of different communities and the abiotic factors.
Biome groups of organisms
niche the specific role an organism plays in the ecosystem
Food Chain The flow of energy from one organism to the next.
Food Web Shows the interactions among many different food chains in a single ecosystem.
Producer Organism that can create its own food through the process of photosynthesis
Consumer Organism that feeds on other organisms or organic matter because it cannot make its own food
Decomposer Organisms that break down dead plants and animals into nutrients for the soil
Scavenger An animal the feeds off dead or decaying matter
