| Patient-Centered Medical Home | A model of primary care that emphasizes care based on a personal relationship between a patient, physician, and the patients health care team |
| Utilization Review | Assessing medical services to determine whether they are appropriate necessary and of high quality |
| Capitation | A set of payment provided by managed care insurance per patient per month regardless of the amount of service the patient receives |

| Ambulatory Care | Medical care that is provided on an outpatient basis |
| Empirical | Learned from observation or experiment |
| Palliative Treatment | Therapy that reduces the effects of disease or condition but does not remove the disease itself |

| Curative | Treatment that cures diseases |
| Fee-For-Service | A means of payment for health care in which each service provided is reimbursed in full or in part |
| Formulary | A list of prescription drugs covered or preferred by a managed care insurance comapany |
| Managed Care | Purchase of protection for covered services related to health care |
| Residency | A program to provide training in a medical field specialty to a physician who has finished medical school |
| Holistic | Considering the whole in medicine, considering the entire person when providing health care |
| Symptomatic Treatment | Therapy for symptoms of a disease or condition |
