Transfer Pipet Used to transfer a small, precise amount of liquid. Usually less than 1ml
Hot Plate/Stirrer Used to heat substances (very hot!) and mix substances in solution.
Funnel Assists in transferring liquids to containers with small openings.
Dissecting Scope Used to view objects at a low magnification.
Petri dish Plate used to culture (grow) microorganisms.
Wash Bottle Used for rinsing solids out of a container
Electronic Balance Used to weigh small objects (less than a paperclip) very accurately. For example, 1.3 grams of a material
Microscope Used to magnify small objects several hundred times.
Mortar and Pestle Used to grind chemical substances into fine powders
Pipet Pump Used with a pipet, it dispenses known volumes of liquids (usually a few milliliters)
Florence Flask Used to store liquids
Glass slide Used to display a microscopic specimen
Coverslip Used to cover specimens on a glass slide for microscope use.
Graduated Cylinder Used to measure the volume of liquids (usually between 5ml and several hundred milliliters)
Magnifying Glass Enlarges the image of an object
Glass Stir Rod Used to stir solutions in a beaker
Water Bath Used to keep solutions warm (not boiling!)
Triple Beam Balance Used to weigh large objects (like a baseball)
Probe Used to move organs within an organism on a dissecting pan
Forceps Used to hold or lift specimens. May be called tweezers
Chemical scoop Used to transfers solids from their original container for weighing
Scalpel Used for cutting specimens being dissected
Dissecting pins Used to hold a specimen in place on a dissecting pan
Dissecting pan Holds specimen being dissected
Dissecting scissors Used to cut specimens on a dissecting pan
Incubator Used to warm living substances and grow bacteria/fungi
Erlenmeyer Flask Used to mix and dissolve solutions
Beaker Holds liquids for stirring or heating. DOES NOT measure volume well.
Pipet Used with a pipet pump, it used for exact liquid measurement (usually 1-10ml)
Test Tube Brush Used to clean test tubes
Test Tube Holder Holds test tubes while heating
Test tube Holds liquids for observation and testing
Test Tube Rack Holds test tubes during observation or testing

Eyewash Station Used to rinse eyes in case chemicals are present in them.
Fire Blanket Used to put out fires on people.
Fire Extinguisher Used to put out fires on objects...NOT people.
Safety Shower Used to large volumes of chemicals spilled on a person
Broken Glass Container Used to dispose of broken glass.
Weighing Dish Used to hold substances for weighing on an electronic balance.
Hand Heat Protector Used to hold hot objects such as flasks.
