Moon Phases
All about the moon and whats around us
| Term | Definition |

| Umbra | The fully shaded inner region of a shadow cast by an opaque object, especially the area on the earth or moon experiencing the total phase of an eclipse. |
| Penumbra | The partially shaded outer region of the shadow cast by an opaque object. |
| Full Moon | The phase of the moon in which its whole disk is illuminated. |
| New Moon | The phase of the moon when it is in conjunction with the sun and invisible from earth, or shortly thereafter when it appears as a slender crescent. |
| Waning Crescent | (Of the moon) have a progressively smaller part of its visible surface illuminated, so that it appears to decrease in size. |
| Waxing Crescent | The moon at any time after new moon and before full moon, so called because its illuminated area is increasing. |
| Third Quarter | consisting of three quarters of something (used especially with reference to size or length): |
| Gibbous | Astronomy. (of a heavenly body) convex at both edges, as the moon when more than half full. |
