GBCN Urine specimens

TermDefinition
Sterile specimens from indwelling catheter (not from drainage bag)
Routine urinalysis (not sterile)
Specimens from infants and childre (urine bag; not sterile)
Clean-catch or midstream specimens (sterile)
Specimens from a urinary diversion (clean or sterile)
24-hour urine specimen (discard the first voided urine; collect all urine voided for the next 24 hrs inform patient) (stay on ice, put info on door)
Point-of-care testing (i.e., glucose, protein, bilirubin, bacteria, blood, pH, specific gravity) (more expensive) need diagnosis right away
