What is an autotroph? Produce their own energy
How does photosynthesis contribute to plant growth? By taking in carbon dioxide and making sugars (carbohydrates)
What are thylakoids? Interconnected sacs of membranes inside the chloroplast and suspended in a thick fluid called the stroma
What is the function of the stomata? Gas exchange
What’s the equation for photosynthesis? 6 CO2 + 6 H20 —> C6H12O6 + 6 O2 Carbon dioxide + water —> glucose + oxygen
What does the Calvin Cycle need ? ATP and NADPH from the light reactions in order to operate
What do we see when looking at a pigmented object? The color we see is the the wavelengths that are transmitted by the pigmented object
What is a photon? A discrete packet of light
What happens when a molecule absorbs a photon? One or its electrons is raised to the excited state
Where are plant photosystems located at? In the thylakoid membranes
What is the definition of a purebred plant? One that passes on only the traits identical to the parent to the next generation
What are alleles? Alternate versions of a gene
